The Olympics are in full swing again! Every 4 years, top athletes from all over the world come together to compete. The athletes strive to do their best for themselves, their team and their country. Of course the athletes want to win, but they are also proud and thankful for the opportunity to represent their country. That is what sets the Olympics apart from other sporting competitions.

CCI Host Family and exchange student

Being new to CCI Greenheart, I notice myself watching the Olympics with a different viewpoint this year. Not only am I watching and cheering on the Americans, I am also cheering on athletes from countries all over the world. This is thanks to cultural experiences I have had, as well as, my new knowledge of exchange students who want to live with a host family and attend school in the USA this year.

These exchange students are amazing individuals who want to grow individually, as well as academically, experience American culture and expand their world view. Being a host means you can make the American dream come alive for a student. It allows you the opportunity to both share America as well as learn about the student’s culture. That is what sets you apart from the rest.

Come on a cultural journey with me to explore the London 2012 Olympic sports and athletes!

We’ve already had an introduction to Great Britain’s culture during the opening ceremonies as they highlighted history, music, literature and famous Britons, including the royal family. Over the next week and a half, I will feature Olympic sports that don’t get a lot of television air time in the USA. I will also highlight medal winners, along with amazing CCI exchange students, from countries such as Germany, South Korea, and Brazil.
