A Sunny Day to Make Someone’s Day a Bit Brighter!
By: Marcelle Benedicta and Joe Burns, Work and Travel Staff
It was a bright and sunny 105 degrees in Palm Springs, just a typical summer day in June. But what made it special was that the Ace Hotel and Swim Club and CCI partnered up to do a collections drive to benefit two wonderful homeless shelters in the area, the Rescue S.O.S. and Coachella Valley Rescue Mission.
Word got out to the community and donations started coming in! It was heartwarming to receive such a positive response, and the team is already talking about organizing the collections drive on a more regular basis.
While some of us picked up donations from various hotels and individuals in the valley, others gathered in a meeting room at the Ace Hotel and sorted donations. Some of the donations included men’s/women’s/children’s clothing, shoes, hats (VERY much needed for a summer in Palm Springs!), appliances, toiletries, office supplies, food, and water. We then repacked the items according to category and delivered them to the shelters in the afternoon. Check out our team in action:
We received the following email afterwards:
“Thank you all for the donations that you brought to the shelter. You all have made an immediate and positive impact on our clients’ lives. During this challenging fiscal time, every single donation makes such a big difference. We at the shelter, both staff and clients, want you to know how much we appreciate your donations and your time in gathering them. Thank you!” – Le McClellan, Assistant Director, Desert SOS Operations
The volunteers and staff at the shelters work tirelessly! We sincerely thank THEM for giving us the opportunity to give back to the community and help others who are in need. It was indeed a sunny day and we were able to make someone’s day a little bit brighter!
