Fish Carcasses, Tiny Airplanes, and Undies, Oh My!
By Molly Friend, Greenheart Outreach Coordinator
The most recent stop on CCI’s Going Greenheart Tour was to Door County, Wisconsin’s Whitefish Dunes State Park. The crew: 18 Work and Travel students strong, one employer, two CCI staff members, and John a volunteer from Bridges, a local international student outreach organization were in attendance. At the dunes Greenheart Club members were challenged to clean up the state park’s shoreline. This wasn’t your average coastal clean up—it was a fierce competition to encounter the most unique pieces of rubbish. While international Work & Travel students from China and Russia scoured the preserved land for trash, they also had the opportunity to learn the importance of preserving protected natural areas. As the sun set on Lake Michigan the trash collection came rolling in. Awards were given: the most interesting piece of trash was a toy airplane, the biggest piece was a high top sneaker, and the grossest piece was little boy super hero underwear.
